Flourish & Play offers Individual Play Therapy – play therapy sessions solely for your child. These are predominantly non-directive and after an initial consultation with parent(s)/Carer(s) a therapeutic package can be made to suit the needs of your child.

Bereavement specific support sessions are available for children, young people or adults – please enquire for availability and information on a bereavement therapeutic package,

Cost of a Play Therapy Therapeutic Package

Children are individual and their therapeutic requirement will be different from another child, so every plan is unique.

Flourish and Play currently charges according to the plan agreed and sessional fees are agreed at the time of the plan being drawn up. The cost per session, includes the additional time needed for setting up, tidying up, preparing resources and note writing. Additional charges may apply to parent reviews, travel, room hire, meetings around the child, reports or other required services.
The location you would like the Play Therapy to take place in, any meetings you would like Sharon to attend and the regularity of reporting will enable an accurate estimate of the likely cost of your child’s bespoke therapeutic package. Flourish and Play have available clinics in Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Essex areas, but other locations can be considered. Online sessions are also available and may be suited more in the case of teens or adults.

Stages of a Play Therapy Intervention

Initial Contact.  This will usually involve a free, no-obligation phone call conversation to discuss your child’s difficulties and explore whether Play Therapy would be a suitable intervention.

Referral Form.  This will need to be completed and consent obtained from all people who have parental responsibility for your child.

Assessment.  This usually involves having a face to face meeting with you, as the parent. as you are the expert on your child. This enables Sharon to get a more informed picture of the difficulties your child is currently experiencing and what positive changes you might like to see.  At this point, Sharon would be likely to talk to other professionals supporting your child’s development: this might include significant others, their Class Teacher, Social Worker or relevant Health Professionals.  After this Sharon will have an idea of how suitable an intervention would be for your child and would want to meet with them.  This enables her to assess your child’s development; their ability to play and how they feel about having a Play Therapy intervention.

Proposed Therapeutic Package Discussion.  If you are happy with the proposed recommendations, then sessions can be scheduled to start.

Play Therapy Sessions.  Play Therapy sessions are usually held in clinics in Leicestershire or Cambridgeshire/Suffolk/Essex boarder area (other areas considered) where rooms are set up for Play Therapy. Flourish & Play can facilitate sessions elsewhere, however additional charge for travel expenses, room hire and time may be added to the cost of the therapeutic package.  Therapy sessions are usually 50 minutes long but may be reduced depending on the developmental needs of the child.  Consistency is really important to help your child develop a sense of therapeutic safety.  Appointments would be offered weekly and held at the same time where practical.  The number of sessions a child will need does vary and this is best discussed on an individual basis. However, on average a child can require a minimum of 12 – 15 sessions of Play Therapy. For children with complex needs, Play Therapy may take a lot longer.

Review Meetings. There will be regular review meetings with you and possibly school staff, if appropriate, to keep you up to date with how your child is progressing and share ideas of supporting your child outside the playroom. Review meetings would usually be offered every 6 weeks. However, this can be more frequent if required as therapeutic interventions work best when parents are part of the process and can support their child throughout the intervention. Sharon would only ask that if anything significant happens between sessions that you let her know before the next time your child comes to Play Therapy.

Preparation for Ending.  Positive, planned, therapeutic endings are really important for your child’s sense of self-worth and so will be part of their final sessions. This will be discussed in the penultimate review meeting with you.
