Parent Support

No childhood is the same,

There is no map to parenting at the best of times, so when your child is struggling with everyday life it is often exhausting and hard to find solutions to try and support them. There are many reasons some children are finding it hard to function in their world and as parents try to cope with difficult situations and busy lives, there comes a point where you do not know which way to turn. Constant managing of a child’s behaviours, emotions, reactions and anxieties can end up having an impact on the whole family unit and how they function.

Having worked with parents in sessions that run alongside their child’s therapy I have experienced the positive side of supporting parents through listening, psyched information sharing and strategy building to help everyday life outside the play space. With limited parent support in society this type of help can often have a positive impact on the parent(s) and family life as they explore ways to support their child, find strategies to build better relationships and encourage a more positive engagement as a family through their own learning and therapeutic guidance.

Parental learning can help support diagnosed spectrum disorders, anxiety, OCD behaviours, bereavement, divorce situations, bullying, behavioural problems, traumatic experiences and many more issues that impact a child’s life. On some occasions parental support alone may not be enough as a child may need therapeutic intervention to help them move forward. However, sometimes support in understanding behaviours and building new strategies to try within the home can be a huge step forward to getting a child the help they need at a particular time.

Parent support sessions can be accessed alongside a child’s play therapy intervention or as an individual block of support, subject to a consultation call where an initial assessment of needs can be evaluated. The amount of sessions is determined in the initial consultation when running alongside play therapy as costs will be dependant upon the therapy plan agreed. A solitary block of parent support is a minimal of six weekly 1 hour sessions at £30 per session (via video call) with the option of a discount if paid in full upfront. Again this would be agreed in the initial consultation call.
